Financing
Building owners want to maximize the dollar savings from energy efficiency projects. The Jordan Institute has a three-part strategy for accomplishing that.
Tap all forms of assistance
Most efficiency projects are eligible for some form of financial support. Utility programs help pay for some measures. Federal tax credits are available for others. The New Hampshire Department of Education reimburses school districts for 30-60% of the cost of building efficiency projects, regardless of size. For some projects, it may be possible to secure other funds – for example, revenues from selling renewable energy credits or grants from government agencies or foundations. Whatever is available, The Jordan Institute will find it.
Identify the best financing
Energy efficiency improvements can be made without any up-front cost – paid for as the energy savings come in. Most building owners want to take advantage of that. The Jordan Institute helps identify the best form of financing and arrange the best deal available. For municipalities and school districts, lease purchase agreements are the most widely used form of energy project financing. They offer tax-exempt rates, low costs, and comparatively simple borrowing processes.
Tax-exempt bonds, bank loans, and utility on-bill financing are other options. What's best depends on the borrower and the nature of the project. But it's often possible to avoid some or all up-front costs and pay from energy savings over time. The Jordan Institute ensures that building owners take full advantage of all available financing opportunities.
Evaluate alternative plans
Building owners should consider alternative energy improvements and financing plans. Usually, but not always, they want energy projects to yield positive cash flows – monthly energy cost savings that exceed monthly loan payment amounts.
During the project planning process, The Jordan Institute uses clear financial modeling to help building owners understand their options. Serving as the "owner's representative," we dedicate ourselves to providing the highest level of transparency.
